You could call this a 'blast from the past'. In 1972/73 I started playing junior footy for the mighty Brandon Park Good Shepherd Panthers. My two brothers, Dave and John, also played. I recall vividly at Good Shepherd Church, all the Panthers footy players were dressed in their footy gear so they could so straight from mass to the game. The training ground was Lum Rd reserve from memory. I know we each played around 150 games. I was lucky that we had a great team and my younger brother (by one year) was quite tall and a very good player. We won a few memorable grand finals against teams such as Bayswater, Studfield, etc. I recall the great service to the club from the Whateleys, Phelans, Castellas, Gannons, etc. Our coach was a fantastic inspiration by the name of Don Wallace. So many great players, matches. Just reminding WP Hawks of its proud history. At 43 yo, my favourite sporting memories are still with the 'Panthers' (now the WP Hawks). We had a great goalkicker in Dave Murray, Danny Bakewell as a great fullback and a giant English guy called Ian Francis who'd never played Aussie Rules in his life but was so gutsy. Anyway, carn the WP Hawks. CHRISTO
