Issue 1/2008                                                                                                                                     April 15, 2008

Newsletter of the Waverley Park Hawks Junior Football Club

I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all players and families for season 2008. It is very pleasing to report that we have achieved strong registrations in all teams and we will be fielding sides in all grades from Under 9’s to Colts in both the WJFA and Yarra Leagues. The only exception to this is that we were unable to gain enough registrations for our Under 13 team and unfortunately we will not be fielding a side in this age group in 2008. New registrations have been extremely strong in our younger age groups of Under 9’s, 10’s and 11’s which guarantees our club a strong future. We welcome all our new players and their families to our club and hope that your association with us is a long and enjoyable one.

I would like to particularly recognize the efforts of our committee, coaches and team managers who have worked hard during the summer months and pre- season so that all is in readiness for the start to the season.

Well done and thank you.

Sunday After Match

SUNDAYS

 5.30pm – 7.30PM

PRESENTATIONS TO START AT 6.00PM

We encourage all players and their families to come along to our Sunday After Match for a few drinks and a bite to eat while the coaches give a report of the day’s play and present the players with their Coaches Award’s. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet other people from the Waverley Park Hawks community. We are going to make a concerted effort to commence our after match reports at 6.00pm to allow those with young families to get home a little earlier, so we ask that you arrive between 5.30pm and 6.00pm which will give everyone the opportunity to purchase food and drink before we commence presentations. We are also implementing a team roster system where a nominated team will assist with the After Match for that week. The roster for April/May is as follows:

Sponsor Profile – Lane Toyota

Lane Toyota has been selling new Toyota vehicles and quality used cars in Glen Waverley for more than 22 years, and is the only Victorian dealership ever to have achieved Toyota’s National Gold Excellence Award for sales and customer satisfaction.

Our new showroom has been open since the middle of last year. Such a significant investment is testament to our continued commitment to Toyota, and to our local community. This impressive new facility has enhanced the purchase experience for our customers, and provided the best environment to showcase the fabulous range of Toyota vehicles.

We hope that our financial support of the club eases the burden on parents and volunteers, allowing all youngsters in the community the opportunity to participate in our great game in a supportive and friendly environment.

We thank Rob Saul and his team from Lane Toyota for their continued support over the last three years and the next three years.

Quality Club Program

Bronze Level Accreditation

Quality Club Program

The concept of the Quality Club program is to provide an opportunity for all community football clubs in Victoria to a achieve a minimum standard of club administration and to recognise and reward clubs for achieving the base standard through to standards of excellence

Benefits

- Minimising many risks associated with running a sporting club.

- Providing an environment that will be attractive to sponsors and help our club promote itself amongst the community and particular to the local council.

- Providing and atmosphere that will help to attract new participants, officials and members and retain those we already have.

- Creating a best practice guide for our Committee and all future committees.

- Participating in a sport that can continue to promote itself as a leading sport where quality is valued highly.

In short, the program is designed to improve the way our club operates, making it easier to attract and retain members.

Genesis Promotion

A reminder that all families should have or are about to receive three Genesis “10 for 10 Passes” guest passes from Genesis Health Club at Waverley Park which allows the purchaser 10 visits over a given month for only $10.00. That equates to $1.00 per session which is outstanding value with all proceeds going back to our club. Please support your club by selling these three passes ASAP and returning them to the nominated parent helper from your team. A reminder that the family/person that sells the most guest passes will win a 3 month membership to Genesis Waverley Park valued at $395.00.

Home Ground Trainer

We once again have been able to secure the services of Darren Blanchfield to act as our Home Game Trainer for 2008. Darren has over 20 years experience working with football clubs in the position of Head Trainer. He also is a trained Ambulance Paramedic and he will attend all home games that don’t clash with his work roster. This does not replace the Level One Accredited Trainers that each team currently has, but is an added extra that the club provides to try and offer the safest playing conditions possible for your children. We are proud to say that we are the only club that offers this facility in our league.

Trainer’s Night

Monday 21st April

7.30pm

Clubrooms

A reminder that next Monday, our Club Sponsor Andrew Dalwood from Waverley Park Physiotherapy Centre will be holding a an information session for all Trainers, Coaches, Team Managers and Runners where he will be going through injury prevention and injury management procedures for all teams. This is a great opportunity for our club volunteers to gain further knowledge of how to deal with injuries that occur on the footy field.

Anyone who requires top quality Physiotherapy treatment should consider using the services of the Waverley Park Physiotherapy Centre located at 439 Police Rd, Mulgrave.

We thank Andrew and his team for sharing their expertise with us.

Gold Level Insurance

The committee has maintained its Gold Level Insurance for the 2008 season. This is a significant increase in our insurance coverage and represents our commitment to provide the safest playing conditions affordable. It must be stressed that this is not a blanket cover and we strongly encourage all families especially those boys in the senior teams who may be working to consider taking out private insurance cover.
